Retention depends on camera count, resolution, and recording mode. We size NVR storage so you keep footage for the period your business requires.
Keep cameras off the business network
Cameras are placed on their own network segment so they can't be used as a path into your business systems.

UniFi Protect cameras, UniFi NVR and NVR Pro, Cloud Key Gen2 Plus, and UniFi OS consoles that run the Protect application.
Third-party equipment
Recent versions of UniFi Protect offer limited support for some third-party ONVIF cameras. We confirm compatibility before recommending that path; existing non-UniFi DVR systems are not configured by us.

UniFi Protect Cameras FAQ
Does UniFi Protect require a monthly subscription?
Core UniFi Protect recording and remote viewing do not require a per-camera monthly license. Footage is stored locally on your UniFi NVR or console. Some optional Ubiquiti services may carry fees.
How long will my cameras keep recorded footage?
Retention depends on the number of cameras, resolution, recording mode, and storage capacity. We size the NVR storage during design to meet your target retention period.
Can I view my cameras from my phone?
Yes. UniFi Protect includes a mobile app for secure remote viewing. We set up user accounts with appropriate permissions for owners and managers.
