Separate file storage from camera storage

Camera recordings and business files have different needs. We size and configure each so one doesn't crowd out the other.

Permissions that match your team

Shared folders are organized by department or role, with access granted to groups rather than individuals.

Plan for drive failure

Drives eventually fail. We configure redundancy and monitoring, and recommend an off-site backup strategy for critical data.

UniFi NAS (UNAS) devices managed with UniFi Drive, and storage in UniFi NVRs and consoles for UniFi Protect.

Third-party equipment

Third-party NAS devices, cloud storage platforms, and backup software are outside our configuration scope, though we can plan network access for them.

UniFi NAS & Storage FAQ

Is a NAS a backup?

A NAS with drive redundancy protects against a single drive failure, but it isn't a complete backup. Critical data should also be copied to a separate location, such as an off-site or cloud backup.

Can UniFi NAS store camera recordings?

UniFi Protect records to UniFi NVRs and compatible UniFi OS consoles. We size Protect storage separately from general file storage so each meets its requirements.

Can staff access files remotely?

Remote access can be provided securely, typically through VPN, so files aren't exposed directly to the internet.
